Do you answer the phone at night and on weekends in Carlsbad?
Yes, 24 hours a day, every day. Refrigeration is the reason: a freezer that fails on a Saturday evening in Aviara has spoiled everything worth keeping by Sunday, and a wine column drifting warm does its damage quietly over weeks. Same-day service is the goal, and if the schedule genuinely cannot take you, you hear that on the phone.
My refrigerator is warm but the freezer is still frozen solid. Is the compressor gone?
Almost certainly not. A Sub-Zero built-in runs two separate sealed systems, one per compartment, with no air passing between them, so a hard-frozen freezer has already proved the refrigeration side works. What is left is the refrigerator circuit: its evaporator fan, a defrost failure furring that coil over, or a thermistor reporting out of range. Ordinary parts, normally a single visit.
How often does a condenser need cleaning in a house near the beach?
More often than the three-to-six-month interval we give owners generally, and how much more depends on the address. A refrigerator west of the freeway in Olde Carlsbad, windows open to an onshore breeze most of the year, pulls salt-laden air through a close-packed fin pack every hour it runs. We set the interval from what the coil actually looks like on the first visit.
Will you have to pull the refrigerator out of the cabinetry to work on it?
No. Built-in refrigeration is serviced in place: the condenser is reached through the lower grille, and the sealed system is laid out for front access. That matters in Carlsbad, where these units sit in runs with stone returning into them. On the Olde Carlsbad retrofits, sliding a column out of an opening built for a different appliance is exactly how the surround gets damaged.
What parts do you fit on a coastal Carlsbad unit, and is the work covered afterward?
We fit manufacturer-recommended components and stand behind our parts and our labor. Pattern parts sell cheaply for evaporator fans, thermistors and ice maker modules, and on a coastal unit working harder than an inland one, a second-rate part is back on the fault list within a season. Check any remaining factory coverage before you book: sealed-system coverage can depend on who does the work.
The kitchen is from an older Carlsbad remodel. Is a twenty-year-old built-in worth repairing?
Usually yes. A built-in is a fitted part of the kitchen, so replacing one means matching an opening, a panel front and a trim line that may not have been made for years, which turns a repair into a cabinetry job. We replace fans, defrost heaters, thermistors, gaskets and ice maker modules, and older units are easier to keep running than the newest control-board columns.
My wine column says it is at the set point but the bottles feel warm. Which do I believe?
The bottles. The sensor reads a spot the circulating air reaches, so the panel holds its set point while the racks sit several degrees above. It is our most common call from the La Costa estates and the golf-course blocks: lights on, door cold, nothing beeps. On a dual-zone column, a zone that drifts while the other holds is that zone's evaporator, fan or damper.
